What documents are included?
Once we prepare your stock transfer form, we will provide you with board resolutions to be signed and updated share certificates for all shareholders. All documents should be maintained for company records.
Can you transfer shares between spouses?
Yes, you can transfer your shares to anyone, regardless of age or location or relationship. This includes transferring shares to family members.
What information is required to transfer shares?
To transfer shares, you will need the following information for the shareholders:
- Full Name
- Address
- Number of shares being transferred
How long will a transfer of shares take?
Share transfers can be completed the same day that all information is provided. If this is received outside of working hours, it will be processed on the next working day.
How often can share transfers be carried out?
There is no limit on how often or the amount of times a share transfer can be conducted.
Will the information be updated at Companies House?
A confirmation statement will need to be filed to update the shareholdings held at Companies House. This can be done immediately after the transfer, or when the next confirmation statement filing is due, depending on the preference of those involved or any requirement, i.e., a bank request.
Who pays stamp duty on transfer of shares?
Stamp duty is a tax paid on the transaction, usually if the value is over £1,000. In some circumstances, the transaction may be eligible for a reduction in the amount due or exempt from paying.
Is stamp duty payable on transfer of shares on death?
You may be exempt from stamp duty if the transfer is included in HMRC’s list of exemptions, including shares that someone leaves to you in their will.
